Take the Helm of Sir Francis Chichester's famous yacht Gipsy Moth IV

This historic yacht broke so many records during Sir Francis Chichester's solo circumnavigation of the globe 40 years ago. A unique part of Britain's maritime history as you sail on this world famous 53ft yacht and experience the charisma of the yacht that bore Chichester on his pioneering voyage.

In 1967, with Francis Chichester at the helm of Gipsy Moth IV sailed into the history books as she approched Plymouth on the 28th May. No solo sailor had ever attempted such a fast solo circumnavigation and Chichester became a national hero.

Following a restoration campaign by Yachting Monthly and the United Kingdom Sailing Academy, Gipsy Moth IV undertook a second circumnavigation crewed by young people, giving them an experience they will never forget.

Essex Outdoors have chartered Gipsy Moth IV, Sir Francis Chichester's boat, for the month of June and will be bringing her to the East Coast to give you and your friends a unique chance to sail on this historic yacht. Why not use this as an opportunity to reward your staff or as a development day? Call us to discuss your specific requirements.

Ellen MacArthur Trust
During August 2007 saw our first residential course for 28 young people from the Ellen MacArthur Trust. The young people, who are in remission from leukaemia, had a fantastic time, despite the autumnal weather! – a sentiment echoed by Ellen herself who joined them for 2 days 'Being back on the east coast was wonderful'.
